Late last week as the evening sun was setting, the north wall of the Headhouse revealed a ghost sign to one of the Team Pillsbury members. The sun in the evening, at about 6:30, hit the upper Headhouse just right and revealed “Pillsbury’s Best” that had been hand painted on the wall back in the 1940’s.
The old hand painted shadow of “Pillsbury’s Best” was apparently uncovered late last year after cleanup crews blasted off the silver paint that had covered it since the mid-1960’s. Now that we know it is there, the faint image can be seen throughout the day but comes out best as the sun is setting and shining on the top of the Headhouse. The “o” from the word “Flour” can also be seen as a very faint shadow.
We have attached a historic Pillsbury photo (circa 1950) with the original “Pillsbury’s Best Flour” on the south upper wall of the Headhouse. Interviews with residents and former employees also confirm that the north upper wall had the same logo (the one shown in our attached and digitally enhanced photo from last week).
We truly appreciate having the opportunity to see the “Pillsbury’s Best Flour” ghost sign in these last days before the building and site are completely demolished. The Headhouse is anticipated to be demolished in another few weeks.
